New People's Army members are warmly welcomed and loved by the people who saw and felt that the NPA is the real soldier and protector of the people. The NPA serve the oppressed and exploited Filipino people, especially the peasants, by guiding them towards the right path to economic liberation. In return, the Filipino people is motivated to do all it can in order to achieve their democratic aspirations.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines, on the other hand, is doing the opposite. Under the command of the oppressors and exploiters, the big landlords and comprador bourgeoisie, the AFP is harassing the oppressed people who fight for their rights and freedom. The AFP, as a whole, serve the oppressors and the exploiters that is why the Filipino people hate them. This anti-people nature of the AFP is one reason why many AFP soldiers, who, in the first place, come from the oppressed and exploited classes, become disillusioned and ultimately side with the Filipino people in the battle against the oppressive and exploitative classes.
